Very interesting blog post by Jose Barreto

It’s not often that I point to other people’s blog posts but this one is great – I’ll make sure to point all my diploma students to this one, as it covers the concepts behind High Availability in IT systems in an excellent way. It then goes on to give examples in the Microsoft stack of products. Warmly recommended – read it here.

Enjoy!

2012 in review

Wow – I thought there was about three people in the world reading my blog – as it turns out it’s a lot more than that. Pretty cool.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 3,900 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 7 years to get that many views.

What’s New in Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012–Part 2 of 8 for Virtualization Review

Even though the virtualization review.com site calls it “Hyper-V 3 Deep Dive” (and Microsoft doesn’t use the “version 3” moniker) this is indeed the second part of my deep dive on Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012. This time around I cover Software Defined Networking (SDN) and how SCVMM 2012 SP1 helps out with this, and how you might need a Network Virtualization Gateway. Read it here.

Enjoy! And thanks for reading.

What’s New in Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012–Part 1 of 8 for Virtualization Review

The first part in an nine part, deep dive, series on what’s new in Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012 is now live on virtualizationreview.com. The first eight parts will cover individual, technical enhancements, whilst the last part will compare Hyper-V to VMWare’s VSphere 5.1.

In this part I cover the extensible virtual switch, along with other networking enhancements. You can read the article here.

System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager 2012 SP1 Deep Dive for Technet Magazine–part 2

Back in the October issue of Technet Magazine I wrote about how to take all your network and compute hardware, along with any existing VMware and XENServer clusters and manage all that fabric with SCVMM 2012 SP1. Read that “part 1” here.

In the November issue is part 2 where I cover the next step which is to build a cloud on top of the fabric. This part looks at services in SCVMM, private clouds as well as the new Service Provider Foundation (SPF). Read it here.

Enjoy, and thanks for reading.

Interview with Carol Wapshere at TechEd Australia 2012

I had the great good fortune to interview Carol Wapshere at this year’s TechEd. Carol is unusual in that she’s a woman, working in IT (there are far too few of them) and even more unusual because she’s stayed in technical roles most of her career, instead of moving into management as many IT Pros and developers do as their career matures. We talked about Forefront Identity Manager and identity in IT in general as well as looked at why there are so few women in IT. Read it here.

Enjoy! And thanks for reading.

Windows Intune (version 3) Review for 4Sysops–part 4

The fourth and final part of my Windows Intune (version 3) review is now online – read it here. I look at improvements to the management console as well as the integration with System Center Configuration Manager 2012 that’s coming SP1 for System Center 2012.

Enjoy! And thanks for your time in reading.
